I woke up to a message from my sister on Skype as follows: “Day without a phone” and boy did i get mixed feelings and thoughts about that kind of challenge. Can I imagine myself without a phone now? Meaning no music on a go, no texts, no messages, no e-mails, no calls for a whole day. What if people need me? What if they need me at work? What if something happens? What if I have to reach someone?.. But challenge is a challenge and it’s got to be done. I’ve messaged her Back saying “Nice” and switched off my phone straight after.
Now try and guess what was the next thing I turned to - my laptop of course… Sure, I don’t need my phone to go on Facebook, check my e-mails and listen to music. I can even check and send texts or call people on my laptop, the beauty of the modern technology. :)
That’s how clever I am i quickly found a perfect solution for a complicated situation, an instinct of survival. But then on the other hand, if that was my game of challenges I would consider it cheating and just because i respect my sister enough I’ve added a rule to the challenge and only used my laptop for work.
As much as scary the idea of a phoneless day occurred at first, it was surprisingly very easy. Yes I did tap on my pocket occasionally to check if my phone is still there (as a habit) but I didn’t panic as I would any other day. Music wasn’t an issue either (half through the day i went to borrow my other sisters iPod, she’s awesome like that). Went to work that day as well and not even once felt like checking my phone. Not even after work. Not when i got home. I didn’t even check Facebook before going to bed - as i do consider it to be a bad habit that I’ve developed.
Thank you for the challenge dear sister but what did seem like hard task to comple turned out to be something I actually enjoyed. What’s next?
